draft-somers-ftp-mfxx-03 as an Experimental RFC?

Saturday, December 15th, 2007

I have just sent an email to the RFCEditor to request that draft-somers-ftp-mfxx-03 be published as an Experimental RFC. I would have hoped it would have gone down the standard track path but, alas, the IETF Application Area ADs have shown little interest. (C’est la vie). Here is the response I got from the RFC Editor:

The RFC Editor is more than a little mystified by the utility of these
extensions.
Why would an FTP client WANT to modify the file meta data at the
server, and even more, why would a server ALLOW a client to do
so!!?? I sure as heck would not want MY FTP server to implement
these commands!

I’ll leave it up to your imaginations as to what I think of this slap-in-the-face.

I tweaked the latest draft and its now published as an internet-draft; here’s the announcement.I have now asked the IETF Application Area ADs to sponsor this for publicaton as a Stabndards Track RFC…. if they say no I’ll just ask the RFC Editor to pubish it as an Experimental RFC (since people have already gone and implemented it!)

draft-somers-ftp-mfxx-02

Yes folks, its been a few years, but I finally got around to updating my internet-draft (draft-somers-ftp-mfxx).

The third draft (-02) has been submitted to the nice folks at the IETF so that they can push it out… once that is down I will be asking the RFC Editor to publish it as an RFC.

The various drafts are available, for historical reasons via the following URI http://www.omz13.com/ftp-mfxx.
